Toshirô Mifune

Man I love this guy!

Ever since I saw Seven Samurai (twice in one weekend) I have been consuming old Japanese (Samurai especially) movies like Roshomon and Harakiri. Just this last week I watched Stray Dog which is one of his earlier films and one of his many done with director Akira Kurosawa. Not a samurai flick but it was a good show none the less and has some scenes in which they stroll through the black market. apparently to dangerous to have Toshiro there, they filmed the assistant directors boots and kept the camera hidden. It is a great depiction of post WWII Japan.

I was inspired earlier this year to work on a charcoal drawing of Mifune from a scene in Seven Samurai. Now it hangs in my office. Not the greatest piece of artwork in the world and this is a scanned image so some of it got cut off. I would love to hear some feedback on it.

Toshiro-Mifune

I came across these cool pictures at Squid Party they look like digital paintings of a Seven Samurai poster.

Here is another one this guy did in acrylic in six segments,  pretty good stuff. I am inspired to do more artwork!

I really like Takashi Shimura as well. If anyone has any recommendations of other films in the 50’s – 70’s Japanese era I would love to hear about them.

Oh ya, and if anyone out there loves me for some random reason, feel free to buy me a copy of Seven Samurai.

That’s a great drawing! Mifune is one of my favorites as well. I just did an oil painting of that exact image.
